Project Overview

Farallon Institute is looking for someone with accounting credentials to help us prepare for our first Single Audit (A133 audit) in 2021. The work is not conducting a Single Audit but helping us identify work that will make going through the audit in 2021 more successful. A successful outcome would include a prioritized list of action items, and potentially involve helping either complete or review (if interested) each action item as they are worked on.
Farallon Institute is a 12 year old non-profit that has experienced significant growth in the past 1-2 years. Our scientists are leaders in interdisciplinary marine sciences and receive funding from NASA, NOAA, USGS, and numerous private foundations. Over $750,000 of our funds are now from federal sources and we will be required to undergo a Single Audit in 2021. Farallon Institute has "system-control" documents in place to govern the running of our organization, but this seems like an ideal time to 1) review these documents, and 2) update and improve them.
Farallon Institute has begun pulling together our governing documents and our Financial Administrator has been completing online webinars on Uniform Guidance regulations. Once this project is complete we will be in a significantly better place from with to engage in a Single Audit in 2021.

Nonprofit Overview

The Farallon Institute for Advanced Ecosystem Research is a nonprofit scientific organization dedicated to the understanding and preservation of healthy marine ecosystems.

Its research is designed to provide the scientific basis for ecosystem based management practices and policy reforms consistent with a productive marine world.

The Farallon Institute emphasizes long-term, multi-species, multi-disciplinary research into the interdependent aspects of the marine environment, including the effects of natural and human based climate change, and the broad implications and influences of ocean currents, weather patterns, fishing practices and coastal development on marine food webs and ecosystem processes.
