Project Overview

We would like to create iOS and Android-based apps for our community radio station KQBH. KQBH 101.5 is a Community Service of the Boyle Heights Arts Conservatory. We amplify the voices of the people through the creation of original programming. We have trained and prepared over 50 community members, ages 8-79, to create, host, record, and produce radio programs with a hyper-local focus.

101.5 is a Community-Built FM radio station with studios in Boyle Heights that broadcast throughout a 10-mile radius to our surrounding areas. To further extend our reach we would like help creating an app where listeners throughout Los Angeles County, and beyond, can listen to our programming.

In a time when the voices of Communities of Color are increasingly marginalized and silenced, we take our responsibilities as an FCC licensed public radio station to heart, making sure we are a fair and equitable media source.

Our expectations for the KQBH app will be to allow our audience to find their favorite shows via the app, select news stories, and stream the live broadcast.

Ideal candidates will have an understanding of using audio and video streaming capacities. We have a volunteer project manager who will help work with the app developer/designer. We do currently have an app, partially built by one of our high school students prior to leaving for college. Not sure if that is of use? Once the project is completed we would roll out a digital promotion and marketing awareness campaign to announce the launch of the iOS and Android app.
