Project Overview

The Center for Migration Studies of New York (CMS) seeks a skilled volunteer to create an attractive and professional design in Mailchimp for its weekly newsletter, Migration Update. CMS has recently undergone a process to rethink the structure of the update and make it more appealing to immigration policymakers. Now, CMS wants to translate that structure into a custom Mailchimp design.
Originally launched in late 2016, Migration Update highlights immigration news, policy changes, and responses of faith communities to migration. Migration Update has over 5,000 subscribers and is one of CMS’s most successful digital products. However, it has been several years since CMS refreshed its design, which is evident at a glance: https://mailchi.mp/cmsny/cms-migration-update-12-14-21

Your contribution as a skilled volunteer will have a direct impact on our subscribers’ experience and promote just immigration and refugee policy to a diverse audience of policymakers, faith leaders, immigration lawyers, service providers, and academics. CMS is a think tank and an educational institute devoted to the study of international migration, to the promotion of understanding between immigrants and receiving communities, and to public policies that safeguard the dignity and rights of migrants, refugees, and newcomers. We hope you will support our mission on this email design project, which we will use for years to come.

CMS has already thought through how it will restructure the text of Migration Update and discussed its design preferences as a team. CMS is also undergoing a redesign of its website, cmsny.org, and has recently finalized the website’s visual design. The skilled volunteer will have access to the design specifications used for the new website and help translate them into an attractive newsletter layout in Mailchimp.

Once the project has been completed, CMS will reuse the template created each week to send Migration Update.
