Project Overview

Our organization, Kehilat Sephardim Food Pantry, is looking for skilled volunteers to assist us with applying for grants. We are a large organization that is running on a relatively small budget, and we need skilled volunteers to help our food pantry grow.

Volunteers will be responsible for researching, analyzing, and obtaining the necessary paperwork to apply for grants. Volunteers will be working with our management team to successfully send out the applications.

It's very important to have volunteers that are specialized in grant writing/development because it helps with the survival of our food pantry. Without help from other grant organizations, it's hard for us to keep serving our clients and our community. Our organization serves the community 5 times a week, and we need to seek as many funding opportunities/resources as possible to continue helping our community. Therefore, skilled volunteers are essential to our food pantry and to help us to better serve our clients and community.

We plan to have these volunteers focus on different types of grants/development opportunities. Each category will have its own groups that are applying for separate grants. Volunteers may also work together with other volunteers to seek more opportunities to help the food pantry grow. This program is mainly hybrid, but we encourage our skilled volunteers to be present at the food pantry at least once or twice a week to discuss opportunities and overall progress.

Without grants, our food pantry operations budget would be very limited, and we would not be able to provide the resources necessary to facilitate successful daily operations. We rely on grants to obtain equipment, maintain current equipment as well as provide a comfortable and engaging environment for both our volunteers and clients alike.

As a non-profit Kosher food pantry, we are seeking grants that pertain to non-profit development, food service, business development, as well as Jewish Organizations. Volunteers can also check for grants through our partner agencies including City Harvest, Metropolitan Council on Jewish Poverty as well as Food Bank NYC.

Nonprofit Overview

Kehilat Sephardim Food Pantry aims to end hunger in the surrounding Jewish / Immigrant communities and beyond by providing Kosher and assorted goods multiple days a week via an open market and client choice system where all of our food is visible and clients can choose what they would like to take for themselves and their loved ones. We believe: “One should not have to choose between their religious/ dietary needs and going hungry.”
