Project Overview

We are looking for someone to help us with SEO and content optimization, particularly for our blog posts and video content on YouTube. Our marketing team has a basic understanding of SEO principles. We are looking for a seasoned SEO professional who is excited to help us identify the most impactful tactics that we can incorporate immediately into our content development efforts in order to drive more traffic to our website and online resources. The main deliverable would be coaching the team on SEO principles and creating a tactical guide and checklist for how we can incorporate the key principles of SEO (keyword and trend research, linking strategies, the most effective ways to develop new content themes and ideas, ideal blog post length, titles, and formats, etc) into our overall content development process and flow. Ultimately, the goal would be to help us better surface our content and online resources to those who are seeking support when faced with difficult work situations. Right now, Empower Worker is at a critical inflection point. Over the last few years, we have seen that there is a tremendous need for our core service - a confidential, free crisis text line for workers dealing with difficult situations, including harassment, bullying, toxic co-workers and managers, unsafe or unequal work conditions. The most common piece of feedback we get from folks after they connect to our text line is, "I wish I had known about your service sooner." We have an ambitious goal to support 3 million vulnerable workers over the next 5 years and developing content is our main way of driving awareness for our free service and online resources. We have talented writers on our team who can generate compelling content to address the concerns of those we serve, but we aren't doing enough to widely disseminate this content among those who need it most. This is where the power of SEO comes in. We believe that if we are disciplined and educate ourselves on the most impactful principles of SEO, then we can incorporate these tactics into our overall content process and use SEO as the key to reaching and helping more underrepresented, vulnerable workers when they most need us. We have already developed a very simple SEO checklist that the marketing team follows (based on our internet research) whenever we create new blog posts. We have very little knowledge as a team about how SEO principles can be applied to YouTube videos so a huge plus would be someone with expertise in video search as well. We have writers on the team who are ready to elevate their knowledge of SEO principles and learn from a SEO expert who is excited to share their knowledge, know-how, and practical tips for how to improve our SEO efforts. The team is eager to learn and be coached by an SEO expert, with the expectation that once this engagement is over, they will be responsible for continuing to incorporate these learnings into our every day content development efforts. The team has also committed to continuous learning and will sign up for online SEO classes and workshops on an on-going basis to continue to build out our SEO knowledge base internally.

Nonprofit Overview

Empower Work is on a mission to create healthy work spaces where people are supported, valued, and empowered. We believe that when people thrive at work, communities, companies, the economy, and our democracy, thrive. To reach that, we need to dramatically shift cultural norms and expectations within workplaces. And we need to radically transform how we support people at critical, opportunity-altering moments.

Our approach fuels positive change in three key ways:
1. Our text line provides immediate, confidential support for under-represented and under-resourced workers, with emotional and economic outcomes that keep them on an opportunity pathway,
2. Our trained peer counselors utilize their training and skill development in thousands of U.S. workplaces, and
3. Aggregate, anonymous data and storytelling from the conversations can inform new approaches, tools, trainings, and policies and change narrative norms for systemic workplace change.
