Oakland Youth Chorus
Oakland Youth Chorus, entering our 45th season as the longest running youth choral organization serving the San Francisco East Bay, seeks the planning help of nonprofit financial management professionals to audit our internal accounting processes and make recommendations about best practices for staff implementation and Board oversight.
OYC has come through a successful turnaround and doubling of our budget and program scope over the past seven years. During this time we have had annual financial reviews, but not an audit. We would like support in aligning processes to prepare us for a successful audit at the end of our 2020 fiscal year, and some coaching/training of staff and key board members in these processes and how to use our financials to strategize for deeper sustainability, expanding staff capacity, and future program growth.
We are preparing for the next stage of our growth and development as an organization as we prepare for our 50th anniversary in 2024. We've transformed programming and significantly diversified funding, doubling the budget, reserves, and gone from serving 350 singers to close to 3000 projected in 2019-20. Financial processes that worked a few years back are no longer serving us as well as they could be, and we need to reassess and implement improvements in order to best serve our young people and make informed strategic decisions.
Your help to assess and recommend improvements to fiscal practices helps lay that strategic foundation. Training and coaching to new board members (learning about the organization and non-profit funding) and our staff will deepen our capacity for implementation and inform future staffing needs. OYC will be able to provide financial documents as needed, and can provide access to needed staff and our new board Treasurer. Volunteers would interact most frequently with our Executive Director. Recommendations would be implemented based on priority and feasibility, but would be directly accomplished by leadership team and our current contract bookkeeper.
The Oakland Youth Chorus unites diverse communities and transforms young people’s lives through excellence in music education and community performance.
