You'll have a 30 minute call to discuss the scope and deliverables of the project directly with Protect Our Parks, and for them to confirm you're a good fit.
Once accepted, you'll be able to get right to work. We will check in with you periodically to make sure you have everything you need.
We need a brochure to explain our position. Using publicly available photos, compose a collage / montage of photos of the park. Juxtapose the proposed OPC over existing aerial / street views, so the public has some idea, the size of this tower, the four other buildings. Seeking volunteers for David vs. Goliath battle: the Obama Presidential center, planned for historic, F.L. Olmsted designed, National Register listed Jackson Park, in Chicago, IL. We are Protect Our Parks, a local advocacy organization, battling this OPC inside of Jackson Park.
There are numerous alternative sites this could be built on. Why our historic park, sister park to Central Park, in NYC, as well as other historic parks? We have been involved in litigation, and an appeal continues. There are issues of public trust, and domain; parkland held, in perpetuity; issues including adverse effects on migrating wildlife, and what appears to be an effort, on the part of the city of Chicago, to 'commodify' these park landholdings. That parking meter deal was nothing compared to this.
Protect Our Parks, or P.O.P., is a nonprofit dedicated to preserving Chicago parks. We take up difficult issues, such as the highly politicized Obama Presidential center, when other park advocacy organizations fail to do so. This OPC features a mid-rise building, some 235 feet in height, along with four other buildings, on twenty acres of this public park. It stands in a corridor of the Great Lakes migratory flyway, and would change the face, the character of this historic park. The public was not consulted, and no public input has been entertained.
