Project Overview

We need to design a marketing strategy for a new initiative, a Research Coordination Network for Arctic migration researchers. We need to market the opportunity to join this new network (for free) across many channels, listers, social media, and groups to build a diverse, inclusive network. We need a volunteer's help to create this strategy to market the opportunity to current students, early career workers, researchers, educators, knowledge holders, practitioners, and the general public.

During this project, a marketing and communications expert will use an established framework and project guide to assess marketing and communications challenges within the context of this new initiative and propose a specific sustainable solution, as well as provide next steps to solution development and implementation.

Estimated duration of project:
Six weeks, 2-3 hours/week Activities to be be completed as part of the project:
1. Align on Research Coordination Network mission, vision and strategic priorities
2. Gather data from key stakeholders
3. Analyze and prioritize challenges and opportunities within marketing and communications
4. Gather and document requirements for proposed solution (scope of work)
6. Create a 1-year Marketing Strategy with objectives, targets, and starter communication assets

What activities won’t be completed as part of the project:
1. The volunteer consultant will not implement the solution proposed
2. Strategic business planning

The ideal end state when it comes to marketing and communication is to effectively reach a wide audience of potential Network members one have 500 network members in the first year. We do not have the expertise to devise a strong marketing plan to know how to craft messages to different audiences and what exactly our communication collateral should look like.

We are looking for creativity and strategic thought - someone who can develop fun meme ideas for social media as well as professional messaging for association listservs.

We have leadership support and resources like mailchimp, established social media platforms, a strong network of Arctic Institute friends, but do not have budget for this campaign.
Description of what the deliverable will include and look like (deliverable):
1. Discover deliverable: A brief that includes a summary of findings from the discovery process and a set of prioritized recommendations on how to move forward in addressing key challenges
2. Design deliverable: A document that describes in detail what solution or solutions the organization will need to implement in order to move toward their desired state. This should be focused on prioritized solutions and not include solutions to more than two identified challenges. The document should essentially be a Scope of Work that includes: a project description , an estimated time-frame for completing the project , the resources needed to complete the project successfully, including the type of talent or skills needed.
3. Prototype of communication assets.
