Project Overview

A Lady Macbeth Initiative, a nonprofit dedicated to helping women enter the film industry, is in need of 1-2 grant writers and researchers who believe in our mission to help flip the paradigm for women in film. We just completed 90% of principal photography on our inaugural film project and need assistance researching and preparing grant applications for (i) post-production film funding and (ii) general grants to support our mission. In terms of priorities, the post-production film funding is the higher priority, but we think applying to both types of grants in parallel will better situate us for success in 2023 as we enter our second full year of existence.

Inspired by organizations focused on providing financing for women-made feature films, A Lady Macbeth Initiative (ALMI) was created to facilitate a toehold in the film industry for women who have the talent but may not have the access or opportunities to achieve their goals. This Initiative provides mentorship, connections and resources for funding to produce short films with behind-the-camera teams composed primarily of women. Why short films, you may ask? Festival exposure for short films is one of the best ways to get noticed by the industry!

A Lady Macbeth Initiative was created to:

(i) Provide mentorship, connections, and resources for funding to women (cis and trans) of all ages and of all races and ethnicities so they may create media about and, most importantly, by women.

(ii) Facilitate the production of short films with behind-the-camera teams made up primarily of women.

(iii) Encourage younger women and girls to investigate all aspects of filmmaking.

After funding the production of our inaugural funding through a crowdfunding campaign and other individual / in-kind donations, we are looking to take our fundraising to the next level with grants. We are in need of 1-2 grant writers and researchers to help us gauge the universe of available grants in this arena and prepare strong grant applications in collaboration with our Board. If you support arts and culture, women in film (in front and behind the camera!), and creating a more equitable film industry, this project is for you!

Our Board has begun some initial research for grants but does not have the bandwidth to understand the full scope of funding opportunities available. In addition to our mission, we expect the main inspiration and proof-of-concept for our grants will be the work put into the production of "Maxine"--our inaugural short film project. We have completed 90% of principal photography, have a ton of behind-the-scenes pictures, and hope to enter into editing later this year (post-production grants will help with this).
