Project Overview

We're looking for a volunteer with experience setting up a bookkeeping system and/or software that best suits the needs of our organization. Currently, we utilize Paycor and QuickBooks, but want to make sure we are optimizing our resources to be more efficient. You'll help us set up regular recording, reconciliation, and reporting practices by spending 20-25 hours with us over 4-5 weeks. In our first meeting, we'll share a detailed description of our existing financial record-keeping and reporting systems. In phase one of the project, you'll migrate our data over to our new software and help us set up our account administrator privileges for our users. In the second phase of our project, you will provide one or two of our team members with basic training. We ask that you make yourself available for up to three weeks to address our questions as we adjust to the new software and systems.

This project would help MUCC transform from a small nonprofit to a more sustainable organization with efficient accounting and technological systems that will help us adapt to the increased needs of our staff and the growing refugee and immigrant community of Upstate, NY. As MUCC has grown in the past 2.5 years from a budget of less than $100K to over $400K, we are in need of systems that can help us track various grant funding sources, requirements, timelines, and expenditures.

We acquired new accounting software last year, but are open to more efficient software that is built to meet the needs of a medium-size nonprofit organization. We've had very basic training and have reviewed their guidelines on how to manage the system and run basic reports. We will designate a member of our team who will manage the volunteer and the project.

Nonprofit Overview

The Midtown Utica Community Center (MUCC) strives to support the local community of Utica, NY, by providing members of all ages, classes, ethnicities, and identities with opportunities, resources, and avenues to create and experience a better quality of life. Since its founding in 2014, MUCC’s primary mission has been to cultivate an inclusive, multicultural, and refugee-friendly space that welcomes all; over the past eight years, we have served more than 4,000 community members, fostering community between local refugees, migrants, and the broader Central New York communities.

Our main efforts focus on three areas: education and self-development; health and wellness; and arts and culture. We facilitate connections between people, resources, and organizations according to the ever-evolving needs of our community. In addition to providing space for cultural and wellness events, we design activities to help community members adapt to their environment, heal from trauma, and chart paths to success as they define it and on their terms.
