Project Overview

We seek a web designer to create structure and design options for our nonprofit website. We currently use Drupal. The volunteer should assess and incorporate our goals and needs and consider our key audiences. The designer should also assess our technical capabilities. The project's deliverable is a draft of architecture and design concepts that we can easily share with a web developer volunteer or a member of our team who will use the guide to create our new site.

Our work will take place over multiple meetings in six to nine weeks. In our first meeting, the volunteer should interview us about our desired features, our web capabilities, and our technical expertise. Then, they'll synthesize the information into a requirements briefing. We'll engage in various check-ins, where a member or members of our team will provide feedback. The volunteer will audit our current site to create a draft of site architecture and design options, including wireframes, site structure, and other visual elements.

Cambridge Camping has been serving the community for over 130 years, providing enrichment programming for under-resourced children and youth but has recently undergone big changes, expanding from summer programming to year-round programming, adding support groups for caregivers, and a workforce development program. Our current website is difficult to use, outdated, and doesn't reflect who we are or the big impact that we have. A new website will lead to increased visibility in the community, a more accessible experience for the people we serve, and increased fundraising both from foundations and individuals.

We have already thought about and are prepared to brief you about our current website platform, budget restrictions for the build, our branding collaterals and norms, and information about our stakeholder groups and target audiences. We've also compiled some photos and have some language developed that we will share with you, as well as samples of sites we like.

Nonprofit Overview

Cambridge Camping's mission is to provide meaningful and inspiring experiences to children from urban and under-resourced circumstances in supportive and inclusive summer and school year communities.

Historically, CCA provided access to summer experiences through our own day camps and partner camps, to which we provide scholarships and referrals. In recent years, CCA expanded beyond summer camp to provide year-round programming in order to increase our impact. Throughout all our programs, we intentionally and consistently refer to participating children as “campers” and our staff as “counselors” -- because camp has been the focus of our work and because we believe that camp represents a unique and very special sense of community, mentorship, and connection. CCA programs are more than just activities. They include a trauma-sensitive environment, a focus on the power of relationships, and a steadfast practice of inclusion and diversity.
