Project Overview

We're looking for a volunteer with experience setting up QuickBooks from scratch. You'll help us set up regular recording, reconciliation, and reporting practices by spending 20-25 hours with us over 4-5 weeks. In our first meeting, we'll share a detailed description of our existing financial record-keeping and reporting systems. In phase one of the project, you'll migrate our data over to our new software and help us set up our account administrator privileges for our users. In the second phase of our project, you will provide one or two of our team members with basic training. We ask that you make yourself available for up to two weeks to address our questions as we adjust to the new software and systems.

This project is a priority for our organization due to several critical reasons. Firstly, transitioning to QuickBooks is essential to streamlining our financial processes and ensuring accurate recording, reconciliation, and reporting practices. Our current systems (Excel spreadsheets) lack efficiency and robustness, leading to errors, delays, and wasted time (of which we have very little).

By implementing QuickBooks, we aim to enhance our financial transparency, which aligns with our organizational goals of accountability and stewardship. Accurate financial data is crucial for making informed decisions and demonstrating accountability to our stakeholders, including donors, partners, and regulatory bodies.

Moreover, this project directly supports our mission by enabling us to allocate resources more effectively toward our programs and initiatives. With improved financial management, we can optimize budgeting, track expenses more efficiently, and ensure that funds are allocated to areas where they can have the greatest impact.

For skilled volunteers, this project represents a meaningful opportunity to contribute their expertise towards a noble cause. By dedicating their time and knowledge to help us set up QuickBooks and provide training, you will play a crucial role in empowering our organization to operate more efficiently and effectively. Additionally, volunteering with us offers the chance to make a tangible difference in our community while gaining valuable experience and networking opportunities.

We've acquired a QuickBooks Online subscription (MAC OS) and connected it to our bank account. We've had very basic training and have reviewed their guidelines on how to manage the system and run basic reports. Our founder/executive director will manage the volunteer and the project.

Thank you!

Nonprofit Overview

We exist to operationalize a paradigm shift in teen identity development, transforming how teens see their world and their possibilities by first transforming how they see themselves, their past, present and future.

African Link Initiative (ALI) is designed to improve life outcomes for youth of African descent by instilling cultural pride, increasing self-awareness, facilitating critical thinking, teaching job-ready skills, financial literacy, promoting agency, global citizenship, and amplifying their voices. ALI is an evidence-based three-part identity development program that culminates in a birthright trip to Ghana West Africa.

We work to cultivate the next generation of great leaders by equipping them with the mindset, skillset, habits, and experiences to give them inspiration, resilience, perspective, and connections so they can create their path forward in life.

Our scholars learn how to advance the UN 17 Sustainable Development Goals within their community. We train youth in career and life skills including AgSTEM/hydroponic farming and amplify their voices through training in public speaking and they record TED-Ed Talks to share their most passionate ideas with the world. Five of our scholars are published TED-Ed speakers.
