Project Overview

Girls Code the World is looking for a grant writer to help us apply for funding that will support STEM education programs, professional development opportunities, early career exposure, and building pipelines for leaders in Philadelphia, PA.

Our organization has been around for over five years now, and we are looking to expand in two concrete ways:
(1) Offering subscription-based programming for rural communities who don't traditionally have access to high-quality STEM education or mobilization opportunities at a young age
(2) Integrating ourselves into low-income and primarily marginalized school districts' pipeline of students to train and mentor high schoolers to deliver STEM curriculum to their local elementary schools in the form of after-school programming

We need to apply for grants to fund those projects, and we are also seeking funding to hire a full-time, salaried Executive Director of the organization who can scale the organization and handle the capacity of logistics and training we will be taking on with our new projects.

Our organization has made a huge impact in Philadelphia over the last five years, and we have worked with incredible corporate and educational sponsors to deliver high-quality STEM education, including Johnson & Johnson, Hologic, Penn State University, Drexel University, and many more. We are at a crucial turning point as we have seen the needs of the community transition from the underrepresentation of women in STEM to the unique challenges faced by low-income and racial minority communities. It is essential that we stay adept to this transition by creating programming offerings that target these groups very specifically and intentionally, lowering any barriers to entry or to retention in the field.

Join a very passionate group of women, see a tangible impact on urban AND rural communities, and be a part of our movement toward a more equitable and diverse community in STEM. Almost every single one of our volunteers ends their time at Girls Code the World with the reflection that our organization has empowered them to continue this work, be the voice of our mission in future spaces, and mentor youth so they can fulfill their potential.

Girls Code the World has a portal of all of our past grant applications, and we have visionary statements and proposals for these new projects we are seeking. We have an entire team of interns working with us to iron out the logistics of the Subscription Program, and we will be piloting a program with the Philadelphia School District in May 2024 where we will gather data and feedback to strengthen future grant applications.

We just need someone who can transition our proposals into specific grant applications and who has the expertise in grant writing to cater our proposal to the vision of the foundation/organization we are seeking funding from. We have several team members to support you throughout the application process, and we even have a list of top grant targets to take advantage of.
