Project Overview

Here to Serve is looking for qualified volunteer bloggers who can help fill our editorial calendar with inspiring, relevant content.

The volunteer blogger will identify topics related to Childhood Cancer and the journey families take with their children battling cancer. This could cover topics on nutrition, schooling, resources available, the emotional toll on caregivers, long-term side effects of chemo, types of childhood cancer, mental health challenges during cancer, and more. Our talented volunteer blogger will take the time to research potential topics and present compelling content in a manner that attracts readership that acts to support Here to Serve's work through donations, request our services, or volunteer to help. Writing must cause people to come back for more so that the blog gets popular and draws an audience. The blogger must have an excellent command of the English language and write engaging stories on topics of interest to people who seek resources and interesting insights about pediatric cancer, stories, and available resources. An understanding of SEO and keywords is important.

This project requires a minimum commitment of 5 hours a month from the blogger. We are looking for a volunteer who resides in the U.S. (so that we have overlapping time zones for check-ins) and is highly fluent in English. We are not looking for a high school or college intern. We are looking for a seasoned writer/blogger. Previous bloggers from Taproot have stayed with us for at least a year (one blog per month), but we defer to your availability.

Battling cancer is a life-altering journey. We believe that no family should have to shoulder that burden alone. Care and support of families are required to prevent parent(s) from losing their physical and mental health, home, job, and entering into bankruptcy. Here to Serve provides comprehensive care and services to support the everyday challenges and in-home needs of families with children navigating cancer, allowing caregivers to focus on caring for their loved ones.

Are your writing skills impassioned, compelling, engaging, informative, and empathetic? Do you want to make a difference and help families taking a child or young parent with children through cancer? Have you always wanted to write a blog that will build on itself and garner a loyal following? Do you believe that cancer is a topic you can embrace and share information that readers will find informative and want to come back for more? If so, apply to be a blogger for Here to Serve (www.heretoserve.org). Blogs are the centerpiece of our digital marketing plan and will be promoted on all our social media to bring awareness to Here to Serve and hopefully draw a larger audience to our website.

We currently have a small team of bloggers meeting for a half-hour once a week to develop blog topics and share stories and ideas. You would join this team. We work on our editorial calendar and assign blog topics. Our editorial calendar will be shared with you. We've worked with several Taproot volunteers in the past, many staying with us for longer than 9 weeks. We'd love to create a longer-term partnership with you as well if things go well! We are looking to fill in new bloggers who can help fill our editorial calendar over the next 12 months. Your blogs will be scheduled in our editorial calendar where slots exist. We try and post blogs weekly on our website.
