Project Overview

To increase AWB’s service capacity, we need to cultivate new funding sources, including applying for larger programmatic grants. This requires a financial audit.

Our current funding ensures that work is being done and supported “on the ground,” but we do not also have the resources to pay for a financial audit. We ask if you would be willing to conduct a financial audit of our organization so that AWB can better support those who have asked for our help. We expect this process to take approximately 9 weeks.

Acupuncturists Without Borders (AWB) is a US-based 501(c)3 organization that provides trauma-informed care to people adversely affected by natural disasters, human conflict, environmental devastation, poverty, and social injustice in the US and internationally. AWB trains healthcare providers to use integrative and indigenous therapies to help communities cope with pain, stress, and emotional trauma.

We believe that unresolved trauma is at the root of many physical and mental health problems and that without intervention, trauma creates significant health and social problems for individuals, families, communities, and nations. AWB’s treatments help people reset, regain hope and resilience, and benefit more fully from other trauma-healing therapies such as psychological therapy. AWB works only in communities where we are invited to provide care and practitioner training, always in collaboration with local organizations and partners. The need for this work has increased exponentially since AWB started 19 years ago and we refer to our work as the Medicine of Peace - Peace defined as the return to calm and tranquility, not the absence of war.

A financial audit would provide us the ability to apply for larger programmatic grants and better meet the needs of those who ask us for support.

Your contributions will take us to the next level and we are extremely grateful to you bringing your skills and passion to this project!

A financial manager has been part of our staff for our entire 19-year history, and therefore we have fully maintained financial records. An independent accountant's review report was completed at the end of FY2020 (October 1, 2019 - September 30, 2020) by Boisselle, Morton and Wolkowicz, LLP. The accountant's conclusion was as follows: "Based on our review, we are not aware of any material modifications that should be made to the accompanying financial statements in order for them to be in accordance with accounting principles generally accepted in the United States of America."

The completion of a financial audit will allow AWB to apply for larger amounts of funding so we can better serve more communities around the world.
