Project Overview

We are in search of a volunteer grant writer who has experience writing successful grants related to Arts, Entertainment, Art Advocacy & Education and who can assist in preparing a compelling “template” to use for multiple grants moving forward. In addition, we are looking for assistance drafting a Letter of Introduction (LOI), which will be sent to private foundations.

We have recently received our 501c3 tax exempt status from the IRS and have identified four grants with deadlines within the next few months for funding in 2025. We cannot afford to miss the opportunity for needed funding.

What started as a neighborhood block party in the summer of 2015 for the purpose of bringing neighbors together has evolved organically into the Leimert Park Jazz Festival, drawing a steadily growing audience that is multicultural and diverse in age and socioeconomics. It is a free community festival that is a celebration of jazz, community and the cultural heritage of the historic Leimert Park neighborhood in South Los Angeles, held annually on the last Saturday in August. Through this festival, we aim to:
• preserve, nurture and promote jazz and jazz culture in Los Angeles through the free festival held annually on the last Saturday of August as well as through educational programs that will appeal to seasoned jazz lovers and new jazz audiences alike;
• provide access to high quality jazz programs to diverse audiences in a historically underserved communities;
• provide a platform and paid performance opportunities for emerging jazz artists;
• provide exposure to local visual artists through the festival's companion art competition;
• contribute to the local economy by supporting small businesses, providing short term employment, paying musicians a fair rate; and
• support local non-profit arts organizations by donating a portion of proceeds from the festival to 1-2 organizations each year.

We are able to fulfill or mission with the support of corporate sponsors, grants, in-kind donations, and many wonderful volunteers.

Our Founder has demonstrated her commitment to this organization, working tirelessly to develop this festival and lay a solid foundation for its growth and sustainability.
