Project Overview

Our organization has an exciting opportunity to bring a conference to Boston called the Youth Bike Summit (YBS). We are looking for a someone with expertise with conference planner that can be a thought partner, join in on our planning meetings, join a committee, or take on an aspect of planning.

This 3 day conference engages youth from communities who have historically been excluded from cycling. Youth and their adult advocates will participate in a range of plenary sessions, workshops, and rides designed to help youth grow as leaders through the power of the bicycle, all while showcasing the beauty that is the city of Boston. The theme for YBS 2025 will be “Beyond the Bike” which will highlight the intersection of the city with the many aspects of life which includes nutrition, jobs that support the bike infrastructure, environment, etc. There will be 200-400 people across the country in attendance.

MFFC is an organization where our young people lead our bike and overall transportation work. There have been a lot of projects from the City of Boston focused on changing our streets to benefit those who do not have the privilege of owning a car. With our young people being the ones who utilize all modes of transportation this conference is a way for them to be more involved in how transportation plays a role in their life.

We have had 3 planning meetings to help build the foundation of our planning group which includes the frequency in which the large group will meet, establishing committees needed, who would lead those committees, and have a draft our a timeline that needs to be finished. In May, we will be working on our fundraising tactics and creating a timeline on when to start that. Additionally, we have already connected with two possible locations for the summit and will decide on it by mid-June. On the city level, our Chief of Streets, Chief of Human Services, and Chief of Community Engagement are onboard. We have also shared this conference with Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley.
