Project Overview

Our nonprofit is seeking a skilled volunteer to assist us in developing an inpatient program involving cognitive and trauma-based therapy.

We have a specific framework in mind for the program: two different classes, each with three parts, with each level of the class running for 2 months as participants advance through the curriculum. This volunteer project will require researching proven best practices for teaching these topics. Then, the volunteer will outline how we can integrate these best practices into programming that steers participants away from old patterns that lead to destructive lifestyles. This includes recommending how we conduct the initial assessment that each client will have to undergo before program attendance.

We envision this program being the only one of its kind that is available to the public. Private recovery programs have cognitive and trauma-based therapy, and that is why they are successful, but at a financial cost prohibitive to our clients. Public recovery programs do offer traditional treatment, but they also need this element of cognitive therapy and trauma-based therapy to uncover those traumatic things that are just beneath the surface that drive the client to go out and use harmful substances. It has a chance to have a very large success rate. As we've imagined the program design, we will only have 8-14 clients with programs running for 6 months, which will allow our day and overnight staff to give participants the coverage to fully benefit from the program.

I have written all documents needed to start this program at our nonprofit, and can provide that to a volunteer for background context. I am starting to write a workbook for the clients to use to track their progress, which they will use in class each day. It is meant as a keepsake and reference for the client.

I also plan to get a copy of my book, Insides Out, to each client when they leave the program, as it is my journey out of addiction and into peace. It will give them hope, along with what they have learned in the program, that they can stay free.

Nonprofit Overview

Our mission is to work with individuals who have been incarcerated off and on due to addiction problems who are ready to make a change for the better in their lives. We don't just focus on the addiction, but we focus on the core cause of the addiction. We focus on the spiritual, mental, emotional, and physical being of the whole person. Our goal is to cure the inner turmoil of the individual that causes the addicition. Once, we are able to improve the spiritual, mental, emotional, and physical issues of drug addiction. Then, we are able to assist the individual with becoming a productive member of society with a whole new leaf on life free of addiction.
