I am a board member of a foundation who, five years ago, was the director of the music school that the foundation supports. I have long-believed that we have an opportunity to do some major fundraising among our alumni and particularly alumni parents, many of whom are passionate about the education their children received and who are now in their senior years. We are a small working Board of nine people with no paid staff. The Board seems to be reluctant to take on a project like this and seems content to maintain the status quo. We also seem to have a problem finding Board members who have prior board experience or connections or even filling positions of secretary.
