Session Overview

We would love your strategic advice on the best pathway forward for possible rebranding, campaign rollout, and making sure we're as efficient and effective as possible with a lean team and tight budget. We are considering dropping "The Ocean Project" and creating a name change more closely associated with the public-facing brand of World Ocean Day. We have a couple of leading ideas.

For 26 years we have focused on growing the movement for ocean and climate action, largely by supporting aquariums, zoos, and science museums be bolder community leaders for conservation and this past year, made an organizational pivot to focus our mission on youth engagement, leadership and advocacy.

The Ocean Project has intentionally not tried to brand itself, as we found that we could achieve a lot more for conservation by doing so. In 2002, we launched World Ocean Day (June 8), as a unique opportunity to celebrate our world's ocean and take action. It has grown to thousands of events in 150 countries and engages all sectors, and the UN officially recognized the Day starting in 2008. We've been using @WorldOceanDay for our social media platforms for about 8 years. Our sites are: www.WorldOceanDay.org and www.TheOceanProject.org.

Nonprofit Overview

The Ocean Project catalyzes collective action for a healthy ocean and a stable climate. By collaborating with youth leaders, aquariums, zoos, museums, and other community organizations we are growing a global network that effectively engages the public, informs policymakers, and strives to protect our blue planet. Since 2002, we have globally coordinated World Ocean Day as a unique opportunity to raise the profile of the ocean and support engagement and action in fun and empowering ways on June 8 each year, with continued involvement year-round.

Everything The Ocean Project does is based on the values of collaboration and community, inclusion and impact, and respect for all people and life with whom we share this blue planet. We recognize that a healthy ocean is essential for life, allowing humans and the rest of nature to survive and thrive.
