I assumed the leadership of a small economic development in suburban Washington DC in January 2024. The existing team of 4 has clear and "rigid" thoughts on their roles and how the organization should function based on their past roles with the previous executive director. I am in the process of re-aligning our programs and, subsequently, our staff roles and responsibilities to better align with our mission. I have the support of my board and have created a clear vision of why and what changes need to happen. How will I reshape job descriptions and increase expectations and accountability with the least amount of resistance as possible (I have already experienced quite a bit of both active and passive resistance).
