Marketing Strategy

Marketing guidelines and design for Adaptable Security Corp

My organization sought out pro bono support right after our inception. Since we are brand new, we needed expert advice and technical skills to implement the new ideas and designs coming from our staff and volunteers. We found amazing talent through Taproot+ and dove into a few projects with our skilled volunteers. After around 800 hours of pro bono support, we now have a website, a marketing strategy, and a freshly developed product ready for beta launch. Taproot+ provided all the human resources that our low-budget nonprofit needed to hit the ground running.

To put it simply, our experience with Taproot and their pool of skilled volunteers rocked. Taproot+ helped us use pro bono service by connecting us with skilled volunteers, sharing best practices, and conduct periodic status checking. They were our personal fairy godmother throughout the entire process.

Design

Design for visual identity for Child Care Resource & Referral

We decided to use pro bono service because we had grown beyond our "state" funded core services and were all over the place. CCR&R needed a brand and messaging for our constituency; we required professional advice but, as a nonprofit, did not have the funds to pursue it. Taproot helped bridge that gap by connecting us with highly skilled volunteers who produced professional-level, usable end results.

Our organization received a Taproot Service Grant in 2016 and adopted a full branding and messaging plan with recommendations from our skilled volunteers that we implemented through a separate Taproot+ project. Participation in one pro bono service seems to lead to another! We continue to have plans to reach out for more pro bono. It has become an increasing part of our budget.

Public Relations

PR strategy and execution plan for College Possible

I was hired in January 2018 when goals to obtain several media hits were already in place. I had ZERO PR experience and was new to the Portland area, so I didn't have any media relationships. I needed help! Thankfully I knew of Taproot from working in the volunteer engagement field and quickly went to them for help. I knew that I would find skilled, talented volunteers through Taproot... and I was right! Less than 24 hours after I posted the pro bono project, I received an email from a Portland local and PR expert.
Taproot had thorough information on what it takes to successfully engage a business professional. They also provided our volunteer with tools for what to expect from the nonprofit. Taproot suggested questions for both of us to ask during the initial meeting to help ensure that we were a good fit. They made the introduction seamless. Plus, we never would have found our awesome volunteer to begin with without Taproot's posting and advertisement of our opportunity!

Marketing Strategy

Google Adwords optimization strategy for Friends of Refugees Inc.

We needed help improving the SEO of our website to expand the reach of our message and attract new supporters. A Taproot volunteer came and helped set us up for success. With help from our Taproot volunteer, we began to see more volunteers attending our orientations and more donors finding out about us. We know it's connected to our Taproot project because when we ask people how they found us, we observed a big uptick in "I found you in an internet search".
When you leverage professional expertise on behalf of the vulnerable, it makes the world a little bit better, a little bit kinder, and little bit more just than it was before. Thank you to Taproot+ and our volunteer for helping us transform more lives by standing on the shoulders you so generously offer.

Website development (GoDaddy) for Coins for Change

Our experience with pro bono support through Taproot+ was excellent. We are a small foundation and completely consist of volunteer staff. Most of us were born in the days before Google and so we required major assistance in updating our website and updating our social media presence.We’re grateful that we were able to connect to the professional resources we needed in order to redo our website and implement a social media strategy to increase our reach and drive awareness of our efforts.Through pro bono, we not only accomplished our goal of developing our online presence, but we also ended up finding a person who is now a valued member of our organization.
I’d encourage others using skilled volunteers to keep in touch with your volunteer even after the project wraps. Our volunteer became such an important part of our organization during her time with us: she is now sponsoring one of our girls in Kenya!

Multimedia

Digital content strategy for Unity Parenting and Counseling Inc.

We were in the midst of a Taproot+ digital content strategy project for our art programs when our youth emergency shelter was struck by a serious fire. Our skilled volunteer immediately pivoted focus right along with us and threw himself into developing a GoFundMe campaign to assist our shelter in recuperating from the severe fire damage. Our volunteer’s efforts paid off; this initial social media campaign raised over $20,000 from new donors within two months.
Unity Parenting and Counseling is a stronger, more viable organization today because of Taproot and our skilled volunteer.
